Résumé de la publication

Banana Bunchy top Virus (BBTV) is one of the most devastating viral diseases of banana (Musa spp). It constitutes a major constraint on banana production and causes enormous yield losses. The study aims to determine the distribution and the incidence of this virus and the farmers’ knowledge. A survey was carried out in 62 banana production sites. The incidence and severity were assessed at random on 20 plants per site. To assess farmers' perception, a sample of 50 farmers was randomly considered using a semistructured questionnaire through individual interviews. Results showed that the incidence and severity of the disease were significantly (p = 0.001) different from one district to another. The highest incidence and severity values (40% and 40.83%) were recorded respectively in the locality of Adjarra 1 while the lowest values (8.25% and 6.25%) were recorded in the locality of Akpro-Missérété centre. Most farmers (96%) were aware of the disease. Among these producers, 42% knew the main sources of spread. From the six main cultivars produced (Plantain, Planta, Gounkokoé, Glinsi; Gbogui and Tchon), farmers declared Planta, Glinsi, Plantain and Tchon in a proportion of 56, 24, 16, 4 and 88, 4, 8 and 0 in Akpro-Mssérété and Adjarra respectively, four as vulnerable to the disease. They (56 %) declared collect seed from old farms to establish new field: and for disease control, they usually cut (54%) the pseudotrunc or uproot infected plants. This information can serve as the basis for developing effective and sustainable methods for the bunchy top disease management.
